The African Development Bank (ADB) gave the Eastern Africa region US$560.3 million in loans and grants in 2010. This represented an increase of 8.7 per cent over the US$515.6 million approved in 2009 to finance projects in the 2011 financial year.

The funds are meant to finance energy, communication, infrastructure and transport projects in nine countries that include those from the Horn of Africa region. The ADB targets Eastern Africa countries comprising of greater Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Etritrea, Djibouti, Burundi, Comoros, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
